About
The European Network for Social and Emotional Competence (ENSEC), founded in 2017, promotes evidence-based practices in social and emotional learning (SEL) and resilience in education.
It functions as a hub for disseminating strategies through conferences, publications, and collaborative projects. ENSEC fosters academic programs, engages with policymakers, and supports SEL-related research and initiatives across Europe.
Its activities include a biennial conference held in various countries, partnerships in EU-funded projects, and events such as the International SEL Day. ENSEC also supports the International Journal of Emotional Education, published by the University of Malta.
From a small founding group, it has expanded into a global network with hundreds of members and institutional collaborations beyond Europe.
We cannot expect a young person to succeed in algebra when he or she is just learning to add and subtract, and similarly, we cannot expect someone to demonstrate empathy toward peers when he or she has not yet learned how to identify and articulate different forms of emotion.
